CGG Commits to Carbon Neutrality by 2050

Cable Solution for Eco-Sustainable Reuse of Offshore Platforms

Aligned with the company’s longstanding commitment to act responsibly and minimize the impact of its activities on the environment, in every sector of its business, CGG has announced its pledge to become carbon neutral by 2050 in scopes 1 & 2 of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.

Company-wide efforts are focused on continuing to improve the power usage efficiency of its data centers, offices and factories, along with increasing the share of sustainable energy in its energy supply mix, mainly through the energy purchased from utility providers.

To reach this long-term target, CGG has also set itself an intermediary milestone to reduce by half its 2019 levels of scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions by 2030.

Sophie Zurquiyah, CEO, CGG, said: “After exiting the geophysical data acquisition services business in 2020 and becoming an asset-light people, data and technology company, CGG has already considerably reduced its carbon footprint. Our pledge to become carbon neutral by 2050 also aligns well with our commercial strategy of continuously advancing our technologies to best support our clients in achieving both their business and transition goals.”

Novacavi has recently made its own technological-productive contribution to the mineral growth test started for the platform protection from corrosion and to favour colonization by marine organisms on the ENI “Viviana 1” platform, offshore Pineto (Abruzzo). For this specific activity within the PlaCE project (https://bluegrowth- place.eu/) that involves the eco- sustainable reuse of offshore platforms, Novacavi has designed and provided an ad hoc solution to connect and make efficient the electrified growth structure submerged in the sea at a depth of about 20m. As integral part of this equipment, the 2XM518 water blocked low voltage underwater cable with high resistance to breakage and dynamic stresses due to constant immersion in water.

“Novacavi is pleased to have contributed to the development of innovative strategies and technologies for the decommissioning and possible reuse of offshore platforms, which combine industrial needs with the protection of the marine environment.” said Francesca Faverio, Business Development Manager, Novacavi.

Specialist in custom cable design & manufacturing for advanced technology since 1975, NOVACAVI develops any cable solutions with engineering expertise, comprehensive knowledge of materials and a high degree of manufacturing.

Sparrows Group Wins Multi-Million Pound Contract to Support Major UKCS Operator’s North Sea Plans for a Further Five Years

Sparrows Group has been awarded a five-year contract renewal with a UKCS operator, worth an eight-figure sum, to continue supporting its production across two assets, as well as its decommissioning programme across three other fields in the North Sea.

The specialist provider of engineering and maintenance services has carried out uninterrupted campaigns on three of the operator’s assets for over 30 years.

Following a competitive tender for the work, the Aberdeen headquartered firm will continue to provide lifting services including crane operations and maintenance, safety critical lifting equipment inspection and engineering consultancy across the operator’s UKCS operations. The contract will also see Sparrows support the decommissioning of three offshore installations including a floating production facility (FPF).

Stewart Mitchell, Sparrows CEO, said: “This renewal marks the continuation of a long-standing relationship with a major operator and its assets. We have a successful history of ensuring our lifting equipment and engineering services ensure operational safety and reliability and experience in the North Sea is one of our greatest strengths.”
