NEWS\\\ WEC Lines opens Liverpool office
WEC Lines is to open a commercial office in Liverpool on 1 February to cater for growing demand for its short sea and container services in the north of England. The new location is at the Matchworks site in Speke, and will support WEC services including those between Liverpool and Leixoes and Setubal in Portugal and Barcelona and Valencia is southern Spain. It adds to WEC’s existing UK
head office in Felixstowe and the WEC Scotland sub-agency in Glasgow opened last year, explained UK managing director, Roger Megann. He said that Brexit customs

routes between Europe and regional UK ports. WEC has just launched a
new weekly service between Bilbao and north-central Spain with Thamesport, Immingham, Teesport and Blyth. A regular ship shuttle service is operated by the MV Freya between Bilbao and the Dutch port of Moerdijk where transhipment is made on frequent services to and from the four UK ports. Connections by rail or road are also available to and from the Spanish cities of Barcelona, Zaragoza, Madrid and Valencia. The Innovate UK sponsored Liverpool- Humber Optimisation of Freight Transport (LHOFT) project has run a trial train service operated by Freightliner to deliver food products from Elst, in the Netherlands to the Kraſt Heinz national distribution centre in Wigan. The LHOFT project aims to establish an East-West freight transport corridor linking Liverpool in the West to the Humber port complex in the East. The trial was considered a complete success and Kraſt Heinz is now be considering whether to build on its findings.
