Nordic logistics comp[any Greencarrier

has bought the road logistics business operations in the Baltics and CEE countries from


Finnish Railways’


(VR) subsidiary Transpoint International. Greencarrier Freight Services chief executive Mikael Forsberg said the move would make his company one of the largest operators in the region. Transpoint’s road traffi c


business operations in the Baltics and CEE will become fully owned by Greencarrier Freight Services with about 40 people working in Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania transferring to the new


employer. The


transaction does


not concern the Finnish parent company Transpoint International, owned by VR Group and its two Russian subsidiaries. Forsberg

been brighter since September and that will definitely be the case in the months ahead. Despite obvious concern about a possible second wave of the pandemic and the reverberations, higher volumes are forecast, the market is beginning to shape up, and we expect to close the year in the black,” said Gothenburg Port Authority chief executive, Elvir Dzanic. The port authority added


that figures published by the industry organisation Ports of Sweden show that Gothenburg

president Martti Koskinen said: “The market has undergone lots of changes over the years, and we have let go of international road traffi c operations in Europe. Leman celebrates 120 years in business


The Leman Group celebrates its 120th birthday on Friday 16 October, 120 years aſt er Paul Lehmann deposited 25 krone from his private account, acquired a telephone and rented premises in Copenhagen. Today, Leman Group has about


700 employees in Denmark, US, the UK, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Greenland and has recently embarked on a strategy to double its revenue to DKK 5 billion within the next three or six years.


During the Group’s 120


years, there have only been six managing directors in the director’s chair, most recently Thomas Krøyer, who took up the position as Group chief executive in 2014. He explained: “The fi rst major acquisition I was involved in, was when we bought DanCargo almost six years ago. Since then, we have doubled the Group and modernized the company on many parameters, and I do hope and believe that we


will succeed in developing and expanding even more over the next few years.” The anniversary year has been a challenging one for Leman, however, with the Corona pandemic and a subsequent hacker attack. “But it has also proven that


we have a strong foundation and skilled employees, who can promptly and innovatively adapt the business to the new conditions,” Krøyer declares.

EU funds Swedish-Finnish green shipping scheme


Ports of Stockholm’s port of Kapellskär and the port of Naantali in Finland have gained EU funding for a green shipping scheme to reduce air pollutant emissions. The project will cover investment in facilities such as ‘cold ironing’ (the provision of onshore power for vessels at the quayside) allowing vessels to shut down their engines and instead use electricity from the local power grid. The project to provide onshore power connections has also been


awarded funding from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. An auto-mooring capability will


be installed to make operations at the quayside safer, more effi cient and more competitive, as loading and unloading times will be reduced. Port of Kapellskär has been


designated a comprehensive port within the EU Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and the EU grant is part of the Motorways of the Sea initiative to switch freight

chairman, Bino Drummond, said: “The development is strategically signifi cant for sustainable shipping. More goods arriving by sea, using routes such as Naantali to Kapellskär, ensures long-term sustainable development and growth of the entire Stockholm region.” The project will start during


November 2020 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.
