TRUSTY BLACK

A black suit is probably the most classic, versatile and key element to a man’s wardrobe. It goes with pretty much everything, however it can look slightly awkward with navy. We think black makes for a great first choice. It’s the perfect base for looking cool, sleek, and smart, especially when worn with a crisp white shirt and a bold, bright tie.

The black suit is the perfect option for pretty much every occasion too, you can’t go wrong with black as it’s the easiest suit to wear and style. The key to getting this right though is making sure you have the perfect fit. Make sure you’re fitted or wearing it slim as it's the only way to look the part. Keep your black suit plain though, having prints on black turns it from a classic into a party piece. If you have to go for a print, the faintest of pinstripes might work, but we recommend a plain black all the way.

FUN LOVING NAVY

If you’re younger, or you’re wanting more of an informal suit that you can wear to work, look cool in or just keep for those events which aren’t too strict, navy is your guy and it’s complimentary to most skin tones. You can either get a solid navy with a sheen to it, or a more matte, wool navy. If those still seem a bit too plain for you, you can always try a nice pinstripe. It still remains a classic suit but it looks so fresh.

Perhaps black is too harsh against your skin tone if you have a paler complexion. Try going for charcoal or dark grey instead. The dark grey suit works in every way the black suit does (except with navy), but as it’s not so strong and deep in tone, it’s softer on your skin. One thing charcoal or dark grey is good for too is making you look more professional and older, it’s often the colour chosen by more mature men, so it’s great if you want to make an impression on your peers. It also makes a great office staple.

So we have been through the classic, dark colours but these aren’t always suitable for the warmer weather and the summer season, so you need a lighter colour option too. You can’t live in black all year round and the best options to choose in summer are light grey or taupe, and these depend on your skin tone and whether or not you have a cooler or warmer complexion.

If you have a cooler skin tone then light grey is your best bet. It’s as versatile as the dark grey suit, will keep you cooler and it’s ultimately a classic. You can pair many colours with the grey suit and you can wear it to pretty much any occasion. It’s a great base for wearing printed or patterned shirts too.
