THE GUIDE MUSEUMS

There are well over 1,200 museums and art galleries dotted around France, according to the country’s Ministry of Culture. The Louvre, in Paris, is of course the biggest, and with over nine million visitors a year, it’s both France’s and the world’s most popular. But don’t overlook the lesser-known, quirkier venues. What about the limestone caves of the mushroom museum in Maine-et-Loire? Or the rather creepy museum of automata in the Lot? Be sure to wear garlic around your neck at the Musée des Vampires, and hold your nose as you duck into Paris’s sewer museum. Even during this dreaded pandemic, there’s fun to be had. But be sure to check online for altered opening times and booking procedures.
