Celebrate National ASC Month Join ASCs across the country this August to celebrate 50 years of ASCs during National ASC Month. Each August, facilities around the coun- try host open houses and facility tours for elected officials, the media and members of their community to pro- mote awareness of ASCs and celebrate National ASC Month. While the COVID-19 pandemic presents novel challenges and changes to the normal form of National ASC Month, it also presents new opportu- nities. Policymakers and the public are uniquely focused on the healthcare sphere, and it has never been more cru- cial that elected officials understand the ASC model and the role ASCs can play in supporting healthcare delivery in this and future crises.
Though in more typical years,

to working with you to help raise the profile of your ASC and educate the public in new ways. You and your staff have a great story to tell about the high-quality care ASCs offer, and your input is critical to securing sup- port for ASCs during key policymak- ing deliberations. This year, National ASC Month will coincide with the August Con- gressional recess as well as the Dem- ocratic National Convention August 17–20 and the Republican National Convention August 24–27. Register for ASCA’s August Webinars ASCA will host two webinars in August.
Sandra Jones, president and chief
executive officer of Ambulatory Strat- egies in Dade City, Florida, will lead “Risk Management: Defining an Adverse Event and Performing a Root Cause Analysis” on August 4. Attend- ees will learn how to define adverse events, explore tools they can use to respond to an incident and find out how to develop an action plan and assess
its effectiveness in decreas-
ing the likelihood that a patient injury will reoccur. On August 18, Michele McKin-
ley, senior clinical education special- ist of Steris Corporation, headquar- tered in Mentor, Ohio, will present “Best Practices in Surgical Instrument Reprocessing.” McKinley will review the guidelines for reprocessing med- ical devices, the role of these guide- lines in protecting patient safety and the practices ASCs can put in place to ensure compliance.
