REGULATORY REVIEW

Guidelines Revision Process The HGRC builds the content of the Guidelines. Members are responsible for contributing during the proposal and comment periods to the work of the document group (hospital, out- patient or residential) to which they have been assigned. Upon agreement on respective recommendations, docu- ment groups are tasked with advising the publication of the final manuscript to the HGRC Steering Committee. Although the Guidelines revision process is spearheaded and ultimately approved by the HGRC, there is ample opportunity for public comment. In fact, we are currently in the first public comment period that will last until October 15, 2015. The 2018 Guidelines revision cycle will yield three Guidelines documents—one for hospitals, one for outpatient facilities and one for residential health care and support facilities. To contribute to the development process for the outpatient facilities document, please visit the electronic proposal system that has been created for that book, available at: www.fgiguidelines.net/proposals_OP.

ASCA’s Representation Keith Metz, MD, and Jennifer But- terfield, CASC, will represent ASCA on the FGI’s Health Guidelines Revi- sion Committee (HGRC) for the 2018 revision cycle.

Metz is both a physician and an

attorney. For the past 10+ years he has been in active clinical practice as an anesthesiologist and medical direc- tor

He was a member of the ASCA Board from 2006–2014 and chaired the ASCA Government Affairs Committee from 2012–2014. He has been assigned by the HGRC Steering Committee to the “Procedure and Surgery” Task Group.

ASCs have not previously benefited from direct representation on the HGRC, but for the 2018 revision cycle ASCs’ interests will be directly represented on the HGRC.”
