GETTING TO KNOW YOU
Nicky Deighan Employment Affairs Administrator
Hello Nicky. How long have you been at SELECT? I’ve been working at Te Walled Garden for six months now.
What were you doing before you joined SELECT? Tell us a bit about your background. I moved to Scotland from Banbury in Oxfordshire to have a better network of family near me. I worked in a variety of administration roles before I got the job here at SELECT.
What does your job entail? Tell us more about what you do My work is mainly split between dealing with administration for the Scottish Joint Industry Board (SJIB) and the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS). I also help out with apprentice and adult training applications and any other ad-hoc duties that may arise.
What’s a typical day like for you at work? Tell us about some of the things you do in an average day in the SELECT office. My average day usually consists of marking and dealing with assessments,

and then helping to process card applications. I also talk to Members and clients on the phone and deal with their queries. I’m always busy and no two days are the same.
Do you get the chance to meet SELECT Members? I do speak to them on the phone and I’m hoping to meet Members at future events, such as Toolbox Talks and this year’s SELECT Awards.
What do you know now that you didn’t before working at SELECT? Did you know much about the electrical industry beforehand? Since joining SELECT, it’s certainly been a steep learning curve! Tere is so much that goes into working within this industry that I had no prior knowledge of.
What do you find most enjoyable about your job at SELECT? No two days are the same and it’s always a pleasant working environment to be in.
