New for 2020!
ABP locks in South Wales growth
Associated British Ports (ABP) has begun a £7.8 million project to replace and refurbish lock gates at Cardiff and Swansea. At Cardiff
the outer lock
gates are being replaced and the old outer one will then be refurbished and installed into the middle position as the existing middle gates are at the end of their life. In Swansea, the inner lock gates
will both be replaced with new gates. Work will be completed at both ports in December 2019. The engineering programme has been designed to allow ships to enter and leave the ports while the work is going on. The Severn estuary has the second highest tidal range in the world and port lock gates area are a vital piece of infrastructure, so it is essential that they remain watertight.
