A Buyers Guide - Kitchens
Buying a new kitchen or choosing to facelift your current kitchen can be a daunting experience for some – where do I start? Who should I trust? Should I facelift or start again?
Here are a few pointers that should set you off in the right direction……
Complete new Kitchen or Facelift? If you are happy with the layout of your current kitchen and your kitchen cabinets are in good condition you may well opt for a kitchen facelift – by changing the doors, handles and worktops you can create an entirely new look without the upheaval of a new kitchen and of course the cost is considerably less. You can still choose to add in new tiling, flooring and lighting etc, it’s just your existing cabinets that remain. If you want a new layout or think your cabinets could do with an update then go for the complete new kitchen.
Arranging a quotation If you have no idea what to expect it is worth getting a couple of quotations for comparison. The person who visits you should be able to answer any technical questions you may have and should be going away to work out the cost of your facelift/new kitchen. If someone gives you a price immediately I would be very wary of signing on the dotted line. There should be no pressure and you should take time to think about it.
Who should I pick? Of course recommendations are the best option, ask around. Most reputable companies will have social media presence, it gives a customer the right to reply and I would be wary of a company that didn’t have this. Do your research …. are they a Franchise? Is the company you are using really local or have they purchased a local telephone number so you believe they are? Google is your friend look at independent reviews.
Other things to consider If you are opting for a complete kitchen you should expect to see a plan. You should expect to pay a deposit in advance and then a payment on completion. Quotations will vary, if one company quotes for solid cabinets and another for hardboard – check you are being quoted for the same thing.
Finally work with the company you choose, ask questions – they really should be happy to help!
