November might be cold (I find that part of its charm), but it's also exciting as the festive events start in earnest, although for me they started in June...I know. There's something magical about the colder months which I love, to include layering up in winter coats and boots and enjoying nights, both in and out, by roaring log fires. Don't get me wrong, I love the sun, I'm one of those that moves around the pool area or garden stalking it until it disappears, but the winter is romantic by its very nature.
Our festive inspiration is ramped up this month, as are my Christmas trees, all three of them! From jewellery and foodie gifts to beauty and fashion, mark the page and leave the magazine open – it works. One wonderfully amusing friend told me that last year she'd followed my advice of ringing the item and leaving the magazine open, only for her husband to keep closing it and putting it away without saying anything. Frustrated, she then rolled the magazine up and hit him on the arm with it (playfully)! She got the ring in the end and apparently he had taken the hint, but unlike her, he was being discreet and not making a point of her being so blatant!

We've always had a great foodie scene in the Midlands, that's undeniable. From gastro pubs to Michelin restaurants there's something for every palate and pocket. At the end of October we welcomed our former foodie writer Gino D'Acampo to the line-up with a restaurant in Birmingham city centre and also celebrated the fact that a boutique hotel in Stratford was listed in the Times 'Top 100 Hotels in the UK'!
It's not just the foodie scene that we should take pride in, we should also be very proud of being home to Birmingham Royal Ballet, the UK's premier touring ballet. What could be more heart-warming than watching The Nutcracker during the lead-up to Christmas? Memories to cherish and it gets you in the festive spirit. It's on my list, as are some of the musical events that Raymond Gubbay is hosting during the lead-up to and over the Christmas period.
Whatever you do, enjoy November, which starts as always with a bang... and ends with mulled wine!
