Corn Stuffing competitors looking for glory at 2019 Cornfest

By Cole Parkinson Taber Times

A tradition like no other is once again one of the premier events for 2019’s Cornfest — the ATB Corn Stuffing contest. On August 24 at 11 a.m., competitors will

once again be trying to stuff as many corn- cobs as they can into their competition mandated uniforms. Contestants must beat each other by stuffing cobs of corn into a pair of coveralls with the winning team being the ones who stuff the most in the two-minute time limit. The person with the most cobs of corn at the end of the two-minute time limit is then crowned the winner. “It’s same as last year and it went really

well,” said Wendi Chisholm,of ATB Financial. “That (sign-up) happens the morning of

but it always fills up really fast. It is usually eight pairs of two and there are two ages, older and a younger one.” The two age categories for the event includes children aged 11-14 going first, followed by age 15 and up. Cash prizes are offered for those individ- uals that place in the event. With ATB Financial heading into their sec- ond annual sponsorship of the event, they are extremely appreciative of all of the hard work put into not only the Corn Stuffing but the entirety of Cornfest. “This will be our second year, Inter Pipeline did it for a long time. It brings out a big crowd and we get donations from Johnson’s donating corn and really every- thing is donated. Uni-First donates the cov- eralls and the whole town comes together. It is great to see all the people offering

their services and time for all of the events. It’s awesome,”continued Chisholm. As far as why ATB continues to organize

the event, Chisholm says its because of their dedication to supporting the places in which they are located. “We like to be seen in the community because we are Alberta. We love to support the towns we live in, the towns we work in and the towns we play in. It is great to be out there and participate with the commu- nity and show them we care. It is a great thing that brings the town together every year,”said Chisholm. This year’s Corn Stuffing commences at

11 a. m.on Cornfest Saturday (Aug. 24) at the east portion of Confederation Park. Signing up for the event begins at 9 a.m.

at the Taber Chamber tent located in Confederation Park.
