HIDDEN GEMS on the high street

ONE OF THE BEST BITS ABOUT VISITING A TOWN FOR THE FIRST TIME IS TAKING A WANDER AROUND THE STREETS AND DISCOVERING THE FANTASTIC CAFES AND BEAUTIFUL BOUTIQUES

SOUTHWOLD really is lovely to explore, with a bustling high street and lots of great little lanes leading to quiet greens, more shops, the beach or a fabulous view. The first thing to note is the mix

of national high street chains and independent retailers. Southwold really does offer an eclectic and diverse shopping experience. There are numerous independent boutique- style shops where you will find some unique items. These may well match up nicely with something from one of the high street brands. Pop into a local jeweller and before you know it you have created your very own Southwold-chic look! Most shops are dog-friendly though it is always polite to check first. Of course, shopping is tiring work

so you will be looking for somewhere to take a load off and recharge with a spot of lunch or maybe coffee and cake. Fear not, Southwold has

more than enough to keep you fed and watered. There are many pubs serving the famous local ale and spirits, and lots of fabulous cafes and tearooms. If you would rather grab a takeout and eat on the beach then you will find several popular bakeries catering for your every need. Naturally, all the pubs, restaurants

and hotels will be pleased to see you for an evening meal. Weekends and holiday season booking is essential, particularly for larger groups. Whether you prefer hearty home-cooked pub classics, deliciously fresh, seasonal salads and fish dishes or à la carte fine dining, you will find that Southwold caters for all tastes. Why not make a note of places and menus that catch your eye whilst you are having a wander around town. If perhaps you prefer to eat

at home, you are not going to be disappointed. In the centre of town there are high-class butchers, bakers

. Southwold & Beyond .

WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED

Abyss Blue

A must-have travel essential for any holiday packing list is the beach towel. Here at Southwold & Beyond we've sourced an alternative to the bulky, slow drying, sand-storing beach accessory. Born from a frienship spent

summering on Greek islands, ANASKELA beach towels are the brainchild of two mother's desire to create a towel that was not only functional but with design and sustainability in mind too. Made from six plastic bottles re-purposed into recycled yarn , and 60% Polyester and 10% Nylon, these full size adult towels measure a reassuringly large 180cm x 90cm - yet when folded are comfortably compact enough to limit the bulk in your bag. Genius! Reminicent of our cover image, we love the Abyss Blue print. Available at www.anaskela.com

and greengrocers. Then head to the harbour to buy catch of the day amongst many Suffolk coast favourites from the wet fish shops and huts – you do not get better local produce than this! Southwold is a small bustling town

with something for everyone. The high street is perfect for fashionistas and foodies alike so get out and have a nose around.
