Suffolk Dog Day
A bigger dog for a bigger day – Suffolk Dog Day returns to Helmingham Hall on Sunday 28th July Returning to Helmingham
Hall on July 28th, Suffolk Dog Day has become a much-loved canine fixture in the Suffolk calendar. With crowds of over 6000 people and their pooches attending every year, why do Suffolk people love it so much and what’s new in the canine kingdom this year? We take a look behind the scenes and hear news about the
event’s new giant
SDDSuperstar poster dog, and the two broadcasting legends who will be
lending
support as very special guests at this year’s event. Suffolk Dog Day, sponsored by Skinners Pet Foods, has been raising money for over a decade,
by a loyal band of Suffolk Community
their
a stunning young champion. We’ve also found a place on all our roadside boards for our other finalists CavaPoo Willow, CockerPoo Darcie, Jackshund Thunder
and Pomeranian
Simba. It’s been so much fun working with them all.
There is also exciting news of some extra
special star
dust being sprinkled at this year’s Suffolk Dog Day by a familiar face to Suffolk Dog Day and
‘National Treasure’
created and run Foundation
volunteers every penny raised goes to Suffolk charities, over £500,000 so far impacting on literally thousands of vulnerable
lives right across Suffolk. ‘The
team
Suffolk people’s have
been
working really hard all year to bring a new fresh look to our very special day. We have a tried and tested formula that everyone loves, but there will be a few surprises on the day too’, says Top Dog Chairman and Volunteer Richard Cooper. ‘In 2017 we introduced Breed Parades for the first time and over 3,000 people voted. With all the new designer dogs and changes in breed popularity we are asking the question again this year with an online vote via
www.suffolkdogday. com to find our ‘Suffolk Super Six’ favourite breeds of 2019. Voting remains open until July 12th
and then there is the new face
of Suffolk Dog Day, Wilson the huge St Bernard. Suffolk Community Foundation’s Head of Public Affairs Tim Holder said, ‘We needed a bigger dog for a bigger return to Helmingham Hall. We had over 5000 entries and we chose the largest and most beautiful of them all. Wilson really is
Peter Purves and making a very special guest appearance for the first time this year is former Anglia TV presenter and Author Christine Webber. Peter had led the team in The Helmingham Ring every year and Christine will be joining the team in The Suffolk Ring. Tim says ‘we’ve loved working with both of our stars on several other projects and we are so fortunate to have their support as volunteers. It’s always lovely to sprinkle a bit of star-dust over such a special day.
So all in all will this year’s event really be bigger and better than
ever – Event Producer,
Laura Ripman is brimming with confidence ‘We are all pulling together to make sure that this is our best Suffolk Dog Day ever! It’s an event for the whole family in the most beautiful surroundings. Suffolk’s love of dogs seems to remove all the barriers. Any dog walker will know - go for a stroll in the park and you are much more likely to be spoken to - it breaks down so many barriers. It’s not Crufts, it’s not about doggy excellence in that way - it’s an event by the people of Suffolk for the people of Suffolk, its brilliant fun and every penny that’s raised helps someone else in Suffolk who is perhaps not able to enjoy life as much. It’s perfect, what’s not to love. Tickets are available on the day priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children with a family ticket for a very reasonable £25. a selection of favourites with songs such as Cheek to Cheek, L-O-V-E, The Sound of Silence, Make you feel my love, Que sera, sera, Country Road, Who wants to be a Millionaire, with a
finale of Sing and of course the audience joined in too!
The Combined Care Homes Choir is funded by Comic Relief and was launched in February 2018. The choir offers care home residents, their families and staff the chance to participate in and enjoy a shared interest and the opportunity to sing, to perform, as well as to meet people from other care settings, who may be experiencing situations similar to their own.
Sarah Kopferschmitt, Head of Care at Seckford Care said: “We are proud to work in collaboration with Grove Court and Woodbridge Lodge, for the Care Homes Choir. The Choir has given residents of care homes around Woodbridge the opportunity to indulge their interest in singing in an open and friendly setting with other likeminded people. To have the opportunity to sing alongside other choirs and perform in public has been very enjoyable for all involved.”
