The Intermodal Association of North America released, in print and digital format, a first- of-its-kind resource, “The IANA Guide to Chassis Inspection and Repair: Intermodal Recommended Practices.” The Guide details all the elements
for the inspection, repair and replacement of components on the North American fleet of intermodal chassis. This project was designed to
support the critically

this valuable resource.” He added, “The impact of these recommended practices will have far-reaching effects on improving
and
utilization of chassis long into the future.” The anticipated benefits
from the guide are industry- wide. Improved repair quality should augment safety,
reduce roadside breakdowns and improve customer service. The 300-page manual also serves as a basis for chassis mechanics training curriculum, while supporting company recruitment and retention efforts. Print and digital versions
are available for purchase. The print Guide is durable, designed to withstand heavy
use in a shop environment or on the road. The digital content can be personalized by adding fully searchable notes, highlights and bookmarks and is available for use on any device – desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone. Digital subscribers will also receive content updates and additions as they become available.
CN acquires H&R Transport’s
Intermodal Division Canadian Rail (CN), through
a subsidiary company, has reached an agreement to acquire the intermodal division of
the Alberta-based H&R
Transport Limited. “H&R is well known in
Alberta and across the industry for investing in its people, systems, and assets, as well as its customer centric services and best in class operations, all
of which is aligned with CN’s strategy to expand our presence in moving consumer goods,” said JJ Ruest, president and chief executive officer of CN. “With the growing consumer economy requiring more sophisticated transportation solutions,
CN’s strategy is
to offer more end to end rail supply chain solutions to a wider range of customers.”
Public art project transforms railroad utility boxes
The New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB) has teamed up with Community Visions Unlimited (CVU) to transform two railroad utility boxes into public art on display along the Mississippi River. The boxes are located near St. Peter Street and Dumaine Street. They were painted by artist Madi Hannan. “The artwork is a fun way
of calling attention to the role that freight traveling by rail and handled through our Port has shaped Louisiana’s history and will continue to shape its
future,” said Brandy D. Christian, CEO of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad Corp. and President and CEO of the Port of New Orleans. “We’re happy to partner with CVU to add some vibrancy to our urban railroad.” The commission for the
artwork on NOPB’s boxes was paid for in part by the NOPB and in part by CVU. Tidy says
the artwork gives the
artists exposure, with several artists placing their artwork in respected galleries aſter producing their art box.
