This is an enormous opportunity to be educated, instructed, mentored, and to have the ability to question and participate in dialog around the Gong. This is a networking opportunity as well, every moment is a link to the ancient past of the Gong, to what everyone is doing now with the Gong. How could you not want to actively take part in what is easily the most obvious, serious presentation on Gongs ever. Here is the short story about this event. . . . .
We can point to a discussion in the UK that transpired between Mitch Nur, PhD and Sanj Hall in 2016 at a Holiday Inn as they were flying internationally. But an earlier discussion transpired in 2014 at the International Sound Therapy Retreat in North Andover, MA. The sponsors of that event expressed interest in presenting a conference on Gongs, but truthfully, the Gong Community at large was not receptive to the idea. Between 2014 and 2016, discussions were underway for a summit type event in Greece, by a Gong centered organization there. One could say that the ‘idea’ is 5 years in the making. But probably there have been others who have expressed getting all the Gong players to gather together at one time or another.
Fast Forward. The Summer of 2018 offered talking time again for this idea when Mike Tamburo and Mitch Nur, PhD had a chance to talk, and from there, the idea was tossed back to the sponsors of the 2014 International Sound Therapy Retreat. From Prague, the decision was to move ahead with the Summit from a financial point of view. In other words, someone was willing to back it up, rather than just talk. An organizing committee was formed to seek out logistical help, volunteers were appointed to gather together everything for the master classes, panel discussions, and support personnel. Special thanks to Mitch Nur, PhD from the 9ways Academia for getting commitments from our master class speakers, and to Mike Tamburo, Michele Michener, Michael Bettine, and Dan Sullivan of Steve Weiss Music for lending support. Don Conreaux for adjusting his schedule, as well as Grotta Sonora for adjusting their summer plans, Thomas Orr Anderson for accepting the moderator position. So many pieces are now in place, but don’t be surprised if more are announced by the time of the Gong Summit.
Everything needs a start, without a beginning there cannot be a continuum. There are many voices in the Gong community now, and time and logistics prevented the organizing committee from inviting everyone. Not to say costs and budgeting was not a big factor as well. Please, there was no disrespect to anyone for not being invited. And we hope that this endeavor raises the bar when it comes to Gong Culture and Craft. Thank You from the Organizing Committee!
