1 – We reserve the right to exclude or amend an advertisement considered


unsuitable for publication in order to maintain our standards. 2 – In the event of omission or printing error, the publisher will make an


adjustment to the cost/size of a future advertisement. No adjustment will apply where the error, misprint or omission does not materially detract from the advertisement. Under no circumstances will the total liability of the publisher for any error, misprint or omission exceed the amount of the cost of the original advertisement. 3 – Advertisements not conforming to the Trade Descriptions Act 1968, the


Consumer Credit Act 1974, The Sex Discrimination Act 1975, The Business Advertisements (Disclosure) Order 1977 and other relevant legislation will be refused. 4 – We must be notified of errors in advertisements within one week of insertion. 5 – Community News, nor the publishers can be held responsible for the loss of


artwork and photographs supplied. 6 – The quality of reproduction of copy for publication is dependent upon the


quality of the original supplied. 7 – Where a proof has been supplied and agreed prior to publication, no credit


will be given in respect of errors. 8 – It is the responsibility of the advertiser to check the first insertion of each


advertisement and to notify the company immediately of any errors. The company assumes no responsibility for the repetition of errors unless so notified by the advertisers. 9 – Editorial supplied to us does not necessarily reflect the views of Community


News or the publishers. 10 – We do not accept liability for any loss or damage incurred by advertisers


allegedly arising in respect of loss, damage or non receipt of advertisement replies, save where such loss or damage has arisen directly as a result of our negligence. 11 – We do not accept liability for any loss or damage incurred by readers in response to any advertisements.


LEISTON GOOD NEIGHBOUR SCHEME


THE Leiston Good Neighbour Scheme (LGNS) provides free voluntary help to people who are socially isolated in Leiston, Sizewell or Knodishall. For example volunteers can visit someone for a chat, help to fill in a form, support and/ or accompany them to go to an activity, do a minor repair, collect a prescription, walk their dog, or carry out a small amount of shopping for them. They can visit regularly, just once, or as needed, depending on what someone would like. Volunteers can also do a one- off garden tidy for someone who is no longer able to manage this themselves. We do not, however, provide transport (for example to take someone to hospital) because this service is carried out by CATS. We currently have 16 volunteers who have different skills to offer, and have carried out nearly 40 activities with people so far. We would love to hear from you if you


are interested in volunteering with us. You can choose what you would like to do, and how often, for example, some people like befriending, and others prefer to give practical help. We would like to thank the Sizewell


Sports and Social


Club for the donation raised at their coffee morning for £233. We now have some cards


and A4 posters to advertise and promote LGNS, and are in the process of placing these in local shops, business and public places. Our phone is held on a rota

Alde Valley Suffolk Family History Group AGM


OVER thirty members and visitors attended the Annual General Meeting of the Alde Valley Suffolk Family History Group held on April 15th at the United Church in Leiston. In her report, the Chairwoman, Diana Mann, commented on a productive year, especially


mentioning


our recent project to scan, preserve and print about 80 photographs of Leiston Grammar School sports teams dating from the 1930s, and she asked for ex pupils and staff to contact the Group to help date photos and identify


pupils.


She also informed the meeting of our recent acquisition of about 250 historic large scale Ordnance Survey maps which are currently being indexed, and will be available for


viewing in our Help Centre in due course. The Treasurer, Steve Stocks, reported that we have around £2000 in the bank; and the Membership Secretary, Pat Carter, stated we currently have 85 paid up members. The Secretary, Angela Skelcher, apologised for any inconvenience caused by monthly talks being on different days of the week and in different locations. This was due mainly to the fact that with the Co-op (Solar) changing their parking policy, it is now no longer practical to hold meetings in Leiston United Church.

Mann, was re-elected unanimously, as were the Secretary (Angela Skelcher), the Treasurer (Steve Stocks)


and the Membership Secretary (Pat Carter). The Committee was re-elected en bloc, unchanged.


The meeting voted to continue the current rates of annual subscription: £6 per person or £10 per household. At the conclusion of the meeting an

New Saxmundham Fromus Centre takes step closer


FOLLOWING the well- attended public meeting held at the current Fromus Centre, last May and chaired by local County Councillor Richard Smith, the creation of a new community hub incorporating a new Fromus Centre has taken a major step forward in becoming a reality.


The Saxmundham & District Community Interest Company (SADCIC) has now agreed an updated layout plan for the new Fromus Centre, as part of planned refurbishment of the Suffolk County Council’s Street Farm Road Buildings. This latest layout plan now takes account of all our suggested improvements to the original layout for the new community centre.


Planning Applications have


been submitted and work on site is expected to start later this summer. All being well, by the end of June, the library will temporarily move into a refurbished Portakabin onsite, to make way for the start of works and refurbishment of the whole site. When the library moves back into their part of the refurbished Street Farm Buildings, the Portakabin will become part of SADCIC’s new Fromus Centre


facility.


Advance work on the whole site should start in July and all of the new community hub should be completed and opened to the public by September 2020. The final site will contain various community tenants and so will become a multi- agency, multi-function building and provide Saxmundham, and the surrounding villages, with a new and comprehensive community hub. The aim for SADCIC is to then give priority to all existing Fromus Centre hirers to take the opportunity to move over to the new Fromus Centre, ready for the Grand Launch of the new Fromus Centre in October 2020.

In 18 months time, SADCIC will be able to hit the ground running and present Saxmundham with a new community facility. U3A is open to all, with no entry qualifications!


THE title may be a bit misleading. U3A, or University of the Third Age, is in no way a University! It’s a members’ run group of “older individuals” who want to get as much as possible out of life. There’s no entry qualification and no barriers. All that U3A asks is that you come along with an open mind, be prepared to join in and contribute to one or more of the many activities on offer. The range of activities is huge, with everything from walking to knitting, astronomy to Spanish, scrabble to Shakespeare. The speaker programme includes talks on different topics at various venues.
