in business, by organising a number of exciting initiatives and events. The Hearing Care Centre is an award-winning family-run hearing care company, which has 26 centres across East Anglia. The company was established in 1998 and recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Staff at the company decided to challenge themselves to raise more money for charity than they ever had done before and pledge to raise £20,000 for their chosen charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a charity which has created over 900 partnerships between deaf people and hearing dogs across the UK. The money was raised with the help of the company’s customer base, the general public

and employees.

Amongst a wealth of activities, staff waded through mud and freezing water in the Whole Hog Challenge, guests ate as many puddings as they liked at a Pudding Club Night, over 400 people attended the company’s very popular quiz nights and over 100 tubes of Smarties were emptied and filled up with 20 pence pieces.

The fundraising pot was also topped up by Barclays Bank, who generously matched some of the Hearing Care Centre’s events up to £1,000 each time.

ALDEBURGH MUSIC CLUB PRESENTS

‘A NIGHT WITH THE CHOIR’

ALDEBURGH Music Club Choir concludes its 2018-19 season of concerts in mid May with a diverse programme of sacred and secular music. The concert, is to be held at 7.30pm on Saturday 18th May at St Bartholomew’s Church, Orford, includes the world premiere of the ‘Sonata for cello and piano’ composed by locally based composer and pianist Jonathan Rutherford, who will be joined in this work by cellist, Michal Kaznowski, a contemporary of his at the Yehudi Menuhin School in the late 1960’s. The choir will perform

Edward Elgar’s ‘Sea Pictures’ (arranged for choir and piano by Christopher Phelps), and a choral medley of songs from the 20th century musical masterpiece, West Side Story: music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. John Tavener’s ‘The Lamb’, Gabriel Fauré’s ‘Cantique de Jean Racine’, and ‘Ecce, quomodo moritur’ by the 16th century Cistercian monk Jacob Handl Gallus, complete the programme. Edmond Fivet, its Musical Director, will conduct Aldeburgh Music Club Choir. Tickets priced at £18 are available now from Snape Maltings Box Office on 01728 687110 or via the club’s website www.aldeburghmusic.club

Karen Finch, Managing Director of The Hearing Care Centre, commented “We are ecstatic to be able to present Hearing Dogs for Deaf People with this money, which will go such a long way towards the brilliant work that they do. Thank you to everybody in the local community who has supported us during this feat, we hope you will continue to

support us in our fundraising”. Rachel Clarke, Hearing

Dogs’ Community Fundraising Manager in East Anglia said ‘“We feel incredibly privileged to have had The Hearing Care Centre’s support

for almost

20 years and the fact that they have chosen to support the Charity again during this milestone year - achieving such a massive target in a short space of time shows their enthusiasm

I ALWAYS try to do my very best for the people of Central Suffolk and North Ipswich and as is the case with my colleagues up and down the country, I have received thousands of emails and letters regarding Brexit over these past few weeks.

The one common

thread amongst those emails and letters is that people simply want a conclusion to this stage of the negotiations.

and dedication to helping deaf people with the gift of a hearing dog.” The company has announced

details of its inaugural Charity Golf Day and barbecue taking place on Wednesday 17th July at Seckford Hall Golf Club, near Woodbridge. Tickets and further

Through every step of the process, I have worked hard to keep residents informed of my position. Although I voted to Remain in the 2016 Referendum, as a pragmatist, I have always believed it my duty to respect the Referendum result and to ensure that we leave the European Union in the smoothest and best way possible. Although far from perfect, I believe that the Prime Minister’s Deal ensures that we deliver on the result of the Referendum and allows us to leave the EU, providing the certainty that our businesses and agricultural sector need and deserve. In coming to my decision to support the Deal, I have both read and listened to the views of hundreds of Suffolk residents and listened carefully to the national debate. It ensures that we leave the EU, it ensures an end to freedom of movement of people - allowing for better control of immigration to the UK - it protects our trade with the EU and the jobs and businesses that rely on this, and it paves the way for an ambitious free-trade deal to come into force in the future - all things which I believe were central to the referendum and the result that was voted for by the majority of the people of Suffolk and the UK. On that basis, I shall, on balance, continue to vote in favour of the Prime Minister's deal. I understand that many people

have been left extremely frustrated by the way that this process has been conducted and, of course, I share some of those frustrations. Having weighed up all the information available to me, I have concluded, that on balance, the Prime Minister's Withdrawal Agreement, imperfect as it is, represents the most pragmatic way forward at this moment. Of course, the situation continues to evolve rapidly, and I will continue to do all that I can to ensure that residents and businesses across Central Suffolk and North Ipswich can have the certainty that they need and deserve to go about their day to day lives.
