Caverne du Dragon, Musée du Chemin des Dames The Musée du Chemin des Dames in Oulches-la-Vallée- Foulon is the most visited museum in Aisne. A former limestone quarry 15 metres below ground, the Caverne du Dragon became a tactical stronghold where underground battles were fought. From here you can follow the Chemins des Dames Memorial Trail to visit other sites.

Standing on the top of a hill in the grounds of the Château de Dormans, this is the principal monument to the soldiers who were killed in the two Battles of the Marne. Erected in 1919, with a 52-metre steeple, and a long staircase leading to its entrance, the chapel affords unrivalled views over the Marne valley.

Mémorial de l’Armistice This war memorial in the Compiègne Forest in Picardy is built on the site where the Germans signed the Armistice that came into effect at 11am on November 11, 1918. The

signing of the historic document took place in a forest clearing in a Wagon-Lit train carriage that was destroyed after the war. However, visitors today can explore an identical model of the carriage, the 2439D, in order to experience the place’s historic magnitude.

MAIN MUSEUMS Musée de la Grande Guerre The Musée de la Grande Guerre in Meaux offers one of the most comprehensive overviews of the Great War. Covering the build-up to war, the four years of confl ict, and its legacy, a visit to this museum merits at least an afternoon, though you could spend much longer here. Reconstructed trenches, fi lm clips and audio guides take you on a journey through the war from the perspective of all nations involved. You can reach Meaux (Île-de-France) by train from Paris’s Gare de l’Est in 40 minutes. There are direct buses between Meaux and Charles de Gaulle airport several times a day, taking just over half an hour.
