Joan G. Wilmer, elected NSU Rector BY NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY

The Norfolk State University Board of Visitors held a special meeting on where the board took action on several board policies and held elections for three BOV officer positions. The board elected NSU Interim Rector Joan G. Wilmer to serve as permanent rector of the Board of Visitors. Wilmer, of Hanover, Maryland, is a 1999 Norfolk State graduate who has more than 20 years of experience as a human resources executive. She is the first woman to serve as rector since former BOV member Teresa H. Carrington in 1998. Wilmer had previously served as vice
rector prior to the resignation of former Rector

DiCroce is the president and chief executive officer of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation. She has more than 30 years of experience as a higher education leader and is the former president of Tidewater Community College

and Piedmont College.
DiCroce was reappointed to the Board of Visitors in 2018 and has served two previous terms on the board. This marks the first time in the BOV’s 50-year history that two women will serve as rector and vice rector. The NSU Board of Visitors has been in operation since NORFOLK STATE PAGE 2

Hampton University students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members including City of Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck and U.S. Congressman Bobby Scott, attended the unveiling of the latest addition to campus, Legacy Park, on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The opening of Legacy Park, which was commissioned by the Hampton University Board of Trustees, culminates a full year of celebration of the
leadership of Hampton University. Legacy Park is located between Hampton’s noted historical landmarks Memorial Church and Ogden Hall, faces the campus' scenic waterfront. The sculpted figures in the park represent members of the Hampton family, as well as friends, who have studied, worked and demonstrated support of Hampton’s mission of academic excellence and character building in an outstanding manner.
