5 HBCU Track Athletes Dominate Photos and commentary by Michael Simmons


NC A&T Director of Track and Field Programs Duane Ross has been named Southeast Region indoor women’s coach of the year by the by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA).


NC A&T sprinter/hurdler Kayla White (Miami, Fl) qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham AL. White’s times of 8.04 in the hurdlers and 22.82 in the 200 meters had her ranked 5th and 2nd in the respective events in the nation. White has been named the NCAA Division I Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.


Junior 60 meter hurdler Madeleine Akobundu (Lanham, Md ) competed in the NCAA National Indoor Track Championships March 8, 2019 in Birmingham, Al. Akobundu qualified with the 16th best time in the nation of 8.12.


NC A&T hurdler Michael Dickson (Beaufort, SC) qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track Championships in the 60 meter hurdles with a 14th ranked time of 7.75.


NC A&T senior sprinter Rodney Rowe ( Clayton, NC) qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track Championships in Birmingham, Al in the 200 meters. Rowe’s time of 20.70 has him ranked 13th in the nation


Norfolk State junior runner Martha Bissah (Accra, Ghana) has qualified for the 800 meters at the NCAA Indoor National Championships in Birmingham, AL. Bissah enters the meet with the #1 time in the nation in the 800 meters with a time of 2:2.58.
