Angus remained sharp in mind, humorous and empathetic right up until he sadly passed away in October 2015. “I remember when the doctor came to his bedside to make it clear to us all the grave reality of the situation”, recalled George. “The doctor finished and there was a brief but heavy silence as all our eyes were on Dad and then, like the chairman he was, he sighed and said, ‘Well…good luck everyone!” Today, thanks to Angus’s children, grandchildren and a group of committed trustees, Angus’s legacy lives on through the renamed charity ‘The Angus Irvine Playing Fields Fund.’ The charity aims to carry on where Angus left off and continues to work hard to build up funds to get young, vulnerable people playing team sports.

Thinking about those less fortunate than himself was a very large part of Angus’s life and with this came his charity work. The Playing Fields Legacy Fund was a charity set up by Angus in 2012, prompted by what he felt was a failure of the London Olympics to provide the promised legacy for grass roots sport.
