died December 16. He and his wife, veterinarian Kelley Kays, developed and operated Falconwood Equestrian Center for the breeding and riding of sport horses for Eventing.


Carl McCuistion, 62, Wilson,


OK, died December 28. In 1986, he married Karen Muhr, and soon after- wards, they moved his horse training business to Carter County, OK, where he trained horses and ran cattle until his death. He was a one-of-a-kind horseman, respected worldwide for his knowledge and skill. He taught clinics and judged horse shows in 25 countries on 5 continents. Memorial donations may be made to the AQHA Professional Horsemen’s Crisis Fund.


V.C. “Buster” Parish, 92,


Madisonville, died January 1. Born in Houston, he was an entrepreneur, rancher and realtor all of his life, and he was part of the QH scene there for over 50 years. He loved working with kids and horses in 4-H. For almost 60 years, he served as a director for HLSR and was instrumental in its early youth horse shows. Parish was a founding member of the Tejas Va- queros trail-riding group.Memorial contributions may be made to the HLS&R Scholarship Fund.


Dick Gaines, 75, Byers, passed


away January 15 following an ex- tended illness. The past president of National Cutting Horses and longtime director contributed greatly to the as- sociation’s grown. He is the only per- son inducted into 3 of NCHA’s Halls of Fame. He rode and bred some of cutting’s finest horses, including Doc Tari and Zack T Wood. w
