Day 6 Bratislava Slovakia’s charming capital has a long and fascinating history. Bordering both Austria and Hungary, this compact and welcoming city is easy to explore. Your included walking tour traces the ancient trade routes, taking in the 16th-century Roland Fountain, and Grassalkovich Palace, the gothic St. Martin’s Cathedral and the rose-coloured Archbishop’s Palace, home to the mayor. On an optional home-hosted visit, you can visit a Slovakian family in their home and enjoy time to chat with them over tea and cake. It’s a wonderful insight into everyday life in Slovakia, and an abiding memory.
Day 7 Budapest Few experiences are more memorable than sailing into Budapest, the twinkling lights of the Chain Bridge glittering against the night sky. Dubbed the ‘New Paris’, Budapest was once two towns, Buda and Pest, either side of the river and you can explore both on your included panoramic drive. Admire the Hungarian State Opera House, and visit Heroes’ Square. Wander around historic Buda, with its Castle District and turreted Fishermen’s Bastion, and Matthias Church. Optional tours are many and include a trip into the countryside to see Hungarian horsemen perform their incredible skills. Or soak up the warm waters of Budapest’s nourishing thermal baths, a tradition still enjoyed by locals. Your ship is docked in Budapest overnight, giving you even more time to explore.
Day 8 Budapest After breakfast, we take you to Budapest airport for your return fl ight to the UK.
