ALBURGH VILLAGE CINEMA

THE film evening starts by showing a Trailer followed by the feature film. “Mamma Mia Here We Go Again” (Amanda Seyfried, Lily James, Meryl Streep), (Drama, Musical, Comedy) on Friday 18th January at Alburgh Village Hall (Low Road, Alburgh, IP20 0BZ). Doors open 6pm.

Voices sing songs from around the world with all pieces taught by ear by musical director, Mary Lovett. You really don’t need to be

able to read music and there’s no scary audition, just turn up and join in! The songs are arranged for different voice parts, so you just slot into the section where your voice feels comfortable. We sing unaccompanied and always enjoy ourselves! The next meeting of the New

Year is Tuesday 22nd January at 7pm at the Emmanuel Church in Upper Olland Street. Further details are at www. joyfulvoices.co.uk

JANUARY, the month for resolutions, recovery from the festivities and complaints about the darkness. In my role as a food and

eating coach, I spend a lot of time talking to people about getting the right nutrients into their body. Vitamin D is a hot topic at this time of year because it is only found in a small number of foods and it’s almost impossible to get what we need from our diet. We create vitamin D in the body when our skin is exposed to sunlight, so levels tend to drop in the winter months. Supplements are readily available in health food shops, so it’s worth getting your levels checked and supplementing in the winter if you need it. Although it’s chilly, we

what she does and there is a great atmosphere in the shop. However, the first thing you will undoubtedly notice is the incredible smell when you walk through the door, closely followed by the warm welcome. So, what do the team at

Suffolk Wildlife Trust

AT the Southwold Wildlife Group’s January meeting local naturalist Tony Brown gave an excellent illustrated talk on the subject of ‘The River Waveney and its Wildlife’. At Redgrave and Lopham Fen, close to the source of the river, we met the rare great raft spider, now introduced to Castle Marshes and Carlton Marshes much further downstream. Numbers of konik ponies can also be found at this site. We moved on to Billingford Mill where an eel pass has been constructed to help the passage of the eels up the river. At Homersfield we looked at the emergence of the mayfly which can, on occasion, be seen many thousands strong as it begins its short life out of the water. Through Earsham, Outney Common and Beccles we paused for encounters with varied fauna such as the common blue butterfly, the

banded demoiselle damselfly, courting great crested grebes and bridge-nesting swallows. On the lower reaches of the river we looked at marsh harrier, coypu (now extinct in the UK), marsh marigold, Norfolk hawker dragonfly, grass snake, kingfisher, water vole, hobby and many more species as we followed the river through Oulton Broad and St Olaves to its confluence with the River Yare near Breydon Water on its way to the sea. At our next meeting, on Thursday, 7th February at 7.30pm in Southwold Arts Centre (St Edmunds Hall), Southwold, the SWT’s Michael Strand will speak about ‘Creating Wildness’ . Admission is £3, including refreshments. All are welcome.
