P E R SONA L S T Y L E AND INSPIRATION

At this time of year our diaries are filling up fast with office parties, nights out with friends and elegant events. Whilst we’re looking forward to the festive fun, we’re facing the big question - What to wear?

Faye Bewley is a Personal Stylist, she’s helping real people discover that personal style isn’t always about wearing designer labels or being head-to-toe in the latest fashion, it’s about feeling confident and happy that you are presenting the best version of you.

If you’ve not found ‘the dress’ yet, then read on to get Faye’s advice on how to select the most flattering dress styles for you and, most importantly, where to buy them, because feeling great in your outfit makes your night - right?

The measure of a fabulous party dress is not about hiding the parts of your body you don't love. It’s about drawing attention to your best bits. Many of us revert to buying the same styles and colours, but often looking at something different is the key. The most common feedback I hear from my clients is “I would never have looked at this before. Now I love it!”

Here are my basic principles to buying the right dress for your body shape:

Narrow shoulders with wider hips/legs – the goal is to create balance and draw the attention to the top your body. Adding sequins and detail around your shoulders and neckline will work well, as will ‘fit and flare’ style dresses that fit closely to your top half whilst skimming over your bottom. This outfit from Atelier 19 is a fabulous example.

Balanced shoulders and hips with a defined waist – if you’ve got a waist flaunt it. This Hobbs dress will showcase your shape beautifully, while maintaining the balance of your proportions. It also works if you’re curvy too, cinching in your waist without adding unnecessary volume elsewhere. Stunning.

Straight up and down (shoulders/hips equal without a waist) – the emphasis here should be on finding simple silhouette dresses with details at the neck and hemlines. This sequin shift style dress from Monsoon creates an optical illusion to slim your middle and elongate your figure.
