MOTORING – LAND RO V ER DISCO V ERY


What could be more fun than a unique adventure that allows you to immerse yourself in the all-terrain capability of Land Rover? An iconic vehicle that laughs at even the toughest of terrain challenges, it’s an experience not to be missed. Invited by Listers Land Rover Solihull to enjoy a one-hour taster experience – in our car of choice which happened to the Land Rover Discovery, I was ready for action!


A luxury vehicle that is capable of carrying seven adults with room to spare, its packed with gadgets and is as capable off road as it is comfortable thundering along a motorway. The latest Discovery might look somewhat sleeker than its square-edged predecessor, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it is any less complete.


Land Rover’s Experience Centre’s provide the perfect setting for you to push both the vehicles and yourself to the limit. Conquer the muddy climbs, drops and hazards of an exhilarating off-road course, in stunning surroundings.


It was also a great way to learn how to set your vehicle up correctly, let’s face it we don’t all know what every button, switch or gadget does, but if we did, we’d get so much more out of our vehicle! Jo, our instructor was great at transferring knowledge without appearing like a teacher or trainer, which is great as you digest the information better when someone is genuinely interesting. She also told us how to safely navigate bridge crossings and rock crawls, breathtaking inclines and the deep-water trenches of the Jungle Track – which Katie, my daughter loved. We experienced the undulating side slopes of the Adventure Zone and the multiple steep descents of the Land Track – all enjoyed to the backing track of my daughter’s giggles and squeals of delight!


Off-road is where the Discovery really comes into its own. That’s because for all its good looks and leather-lined luxury, it’s still a Land Rover at heart and will thus clamber over, wade through or trek across terrain that you simply wouldn’t expect a car to conquer. Other than rear-locking differential the Discovery comes equiped as standard with the terrain response systems required for this authentic go-anywhere ability. For gadget lovers there’s even an off-road version of cruise control that will hold the car at a steady speed over tricky terrain – which took a while for me to trust, but when I relaxed and realised the car ‘had it covered’, it was a great feeling. We got to try all this gadgetry out for ourselves under the close supervision of Jo.


We left with a greater understanding of, and confidence in the capabilities of a Land Rover…oh and driving memories for Katie that will last a lifetime!
