beaches, harbours and other places of interest around the island and get you back efficiently.


Occupancy of the island goes back to the Neolithic period with some of the oldest free- standing buildings in the world at the Ggantija complex and museum. Access is through a modern interpretation building where you can walk and explore the temple ruins that date back to around the days of the Pyramids and Stonehenge.


Whilst there do take time to see thewindmill,which is just a very short walk away. One visit you must make is to the Citadel in the capital Victoria. Here you can take the bus from St Lawrenz and spend a day exploring the alleys, markets and modern shopping malls and the dominating Citadel itself.


Recently undergone a massive and I guess expensive refurbishment the Citadel and ramparts that rise high above the city are now in near perfect condition after the project by Heritage Malta. This is a real credit to them as the whole area has been landscaped and buildings within them repaired and made good, making it both smart and hence saving the fortification for generations to come.


Themain andmost popular beach on the island and other seaside villages can be reached by bus, which would involve a ride to Victoria and then a change to the spider’sweb of routes that fan out from the city. Although those ever helpful taxi drivers will get you there and back with arrangements or hire them for day or half day. Calypso cave viewpoint will give an excellent view over the most popular beach on the island Ramla Bay. The hill top cave is where Odysseus is thought to have stayed for a number of years, the caves are now deemed unsafe to visit and in the light of the event at the AzureWindowprobably a sensible decision.


If you don’t want to cook your fish at home make to the pretty harbour atMarsalforn, which is wheremany of the Gozitan’s go for their seafood. And in my book that is good reason to follow them too!


All in all, the 'Haven' apartment in St Lawrenz offers accommodation in very much a traditional style yet along with ‘mod cons’ TV andWi-Fi. A home from home for you to make your base for a week and just get away from the uncertain climate at home. Awelcome pack of food items, drinks andwine is left to get you started as you relax into life in Gozo.


It maybe, that you never leave the sun terrace and pool just spending the whole-time sunbathing, swimming or rather plunging, and barbequing, but if you do, you have a real cosy ‘haven’ to come back to!
