delighted to meet her, hear her story and have her answer questions. They were even treated to a small selection of her songs from Shrek, and the principal leads enjoyed a private tutorial.
The 2017 top Overall Math Olympian is Salayah Stange ‘22! Salayah also took home the prize for the Top Middle School Student. Laura Hupman ‘23 took home 1st place for the Year 8 age-group and Madison Quig ‘19 won the Year 12 round. Other awards were given to those students who participated in the Math Olympiad: Year 6 - Charlotte Millington 5th, Maddie Doyle 10th; Year 7 - Holly Hellman 8th, Willow Hartman 10th; Year 8 - Laura Hupman 1st, Maya Luthi 10th; Year 9 - Salayah Stange 1st; IB1 - Madison Quig 1st, Lizzie Luckashvili 4th, Celia Harris 5th, Calvina Steede 6th.
The BHS Christmas Crackers did a great job performing at St. Peter’s during the Christmas Walkabout in St. George’s. The students also gave a performance for the seniors at Westmeath Residential and Nursing Home.
Year 5 students bid farewell to their IPC Unit “The Great, The Bold and The Brave” with a Greek and Roman-themed day. The girls came in costume, took part in “Greek Olympic” games on the field, and tasted a feast of traditional food - hummus, pita bread, olives, figs and more.
BHS was well represented at the inaugural Parent Expo and Youth Maker Faire. DIY Club members shared all the fun and creative things they do, and visiting students enjoyed trying out the green screen. The FIRST Global Robotics team wowed Minister Caines with their robotic knowledge and demonstrated how their robot worked by manoeuvring it around the gym. Additionally, Mrs Parker co-presented a study skills workshop with Ms Sim, and BHS parent and Deputy Principal of West End Primary, Tamicia Darrell.
FEBRUARY EYP Students met Torch – the school mascot - who made her first visit to the youngest BHS students, and they were very excited to meet her! She also made an appearance at the BHS-BFA Under-7 Football Tournament held on the BHS field.
MARCH
BHS Students participated in the Spring Debate and Public Speaking Competition. In the Middle School competition, the BHS team placed 3rd overall, and Kristy Sanchez ‘22 also placed 3rd overall. BHS was also successful in the After-Dinner Speaking category with Kristy Sanchez taking top spot and Willow Hartman ‘24 placing 2nd. Millie Lewis ‘23 placed 2nd in the Radio Newscast competition and 4th in the Persuasive Speaking. Kristy Sanchez also placed 4th for her Interpretive
JANUARY
Five of our students earned the incredible opportunity of performing in the Bermuda Festival alongside the Red Hot Chili Pipers. The BHS “Groupies” were: Tessa Kearns ‘26, Robin Selley ‘26, Sarah Davis ‘26, Emily Davis ‘23 and Cerra Simmons ‘20.
BHS helped launch the Royal Gazette’s Drive for Change campaign to raise awareness about the dangerous driving habits in Bermuda, and to make a change to reduce the carnage on the roads.
