Spring School Games Festival held at Dauntsey’s School


Hardenhuish Rugby Winners


600 young athletes representing 43 Primary and Secondary schools competed at the County’s first Spring School Games Festival hosted by Dauntsey’s School on 16th March in the finals of 5 sports.


The standard of play was excellent and resulted in some very close games. None more so than the primary hockey which saw Ramsbury emerge winners against Winterslow. With the score 0-0 at full time the match went to golden goal and finally penalty flicks. More golden goals were seen in the U/13 netball event with South Wiltshire Grammar eventually beating Lavington. South Wiltshire Grammar were also in the U/15 final but were

New Age Kurling winners St Josephs


unable to complete the double losing to Warneford. Hardenhuish were very impressive in remaining undefeated to win the Rugby 7s finals. St Joseph’s School enjoyed great success in the New Age Kurling event winning both


A new event for the School Games this year was Modern Triathlon- a relay event consisting of a swim, run and laser pistol shooting. The lead changed with every discipline resulting in an exciting finale. Lavington and Matravers held their nerve and won the boys and girls respectively. The event was organised by Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP) in conjunction with School Games Organisers.

Boys Modern Triathlon


Netball Association, RFU, Wiltshire Council and Pentathlon GB along with many volunteers from local clubs. Alma Borthwick, organiser of the event, said ‘the Spring Festival has been a great addition to the School Games programme and we are very grateful to Dauntsey’ s school for allowing us to use their fantastic facilities.”

Primary Gymnastics Competition


Primary Gymnastics is a new addition to the School Games Programme with the final taking place at West Wilts Gymnastics, Trowbridge on Monday 30th April. Competing on the vault and floor, the young gymnasts from 10 schools showed poise and elegance in performing their routines. With scores being very close the eventual winners were Christchurch followed closely by St Marys in 2nd place and The Grove 3rd .
