Page 7 Davis, Osborne Named Ashe Sport Scholars

Two Hampton University student-athletes were recently named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Athletes by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. Out of an applicant pool of over 1,000 minority-student athletes, Stanley Davis and TJ Osborne were honored as Sport Scholars for track and golf.
To be recognized as a Sports Scholar, student-athletes must maintain over a 3.2 GPA and be
active on campus as well as the community.
Stanley Davis is an electrical engineering major and a member of the track and cross country teams. He was named 2015-16 Cross Country & Track and Field MVP and 2016-17 Indoor Track and Field MVP and was part of the first HBCU team to win the Indoor IC4A Championship. His volunteering involves working with organizations such as Jump
Rope for Heart, YMCA, and he has participated in an Alzheimer's awareness walk. He is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and MEAC Student-Athlete All-Academic team. Davis recently received the Male Academic Achievement award winner for graduating with the highest GPA.
Golfer Taylor Osborne is majoring in marine and
environmental sciences. He was first in stroke average in the 2016- 17 season, 78.21. He is the founder of Clean Up VA, an organization that helps clean the roads of litter and trash. He is also a member of the Urban Pioneers Association, which travels to urban cities across the country and creates projects to help the homeless and inner city communities. In addition, the association does workshops for mental health, education and environmental projects.
