GDPR comes into force
on 25 May 2018 The new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force on 25 May. Currently firms are falling over themselves to charge lots of money to ensure we (and you) are compliant - the new phenomenon of the year! This new ruling does not apply to the whole world, but if you operate from the EU, or do business with organisations based in the EU, you need to take action. The new regulation is no bad thing in what it sets out to do. Given what is now known about Facebook data and its use, we are all entitled to be concerned about how our personal information is stored. But of course, it is a burden on small, independent businesses who need to ensure they are compliant.
The official GDPR site -
https://www.eugdpr.org - describes the new regulation.
After four years of preparation and debate the GDPR was finally approved by the EU Parliament on 14 April 2016. Enforcement date is 25 May 2018 - at which time those organizations in non-compliance may face heavy fines.
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy. The key articles of the GDPR, as well as information on its business impact, can be found throughout this site.
