Richard Stanley is completing the trunk and house on a Bunker & Ellis 36, known as MOUSE, for a local customer.


Presently in the shop is a 38 Wesmac,


which is being fi nished out as a sport- fi sherman. She is in to be faired and then Awlgripped, which should take a couple of months to complete. They then will fi nish off a Wesmac Su-


perwide 46 as a lobster boat for a fi sherman from Harpswell. They also have several repair jobs al-


ready lined up for the end of this winter and into the spring.


Hutchinson Composites in Cushing


has a Mussel Ridge 46 they are fi nishing out as a lobster/tuna boat for a fi sherman from Massachusetts. She will be powered with an 800 hp Volvo diesel, and for ac- commodations she will have a V-berth with two bunks over, head with shower, hanging lockers with galley up. In the platform, she will have a main fi sh hold for crates and tankage for 800 gallons of fuel. Another Mussel Ridge 46 is being fi nished off as a lobster boat for a fi sherman


from Boston. She will be powered with a 750 hp John Deere. For accommodations she has nothing down below and under the platform she has a centerline tank for lobsters. In the mould is a Mussel Ridge 42 which


will be going out as a kit for a fi sherman from Newburyport who will be fi nishing her out as a lobster boat.


Rockport Marine in Rockport has several projects underway. In one bay they have a 30 foot racer


from Lake Winnipesaukee, which they are replacing the bottom on as well as doing some transom repairs. They have also had to repair the fore-foot knee, and frame ends. When the repairs are complete, she will be painted for the upcoming season. This boat was built in Gloucester in 1982 and is a replica of the speedboats that raced on Lake Winnipesaukee in the early 1900s. A Paul Luke built ketch is in to have


her frame ends repaired and then her regular maintenance.


At Rockport Marine in Rockport they are rebuilding the bottom of this replica speedboat from Lake Winnipesaukee. She was built in Gloucester, MA in 1982.


A Concordia 39 is in and having her house top redone.


THUNDERHEAD, a Rhodes design


built by Abeking & Rassmusen in Germany, is in for her regular maintenance. A Huckins is in for a new engine which will be 300 hp Crusader on a V-drive. Another major project is on a Rhodes


design and Abeking & Rassmusen built sailboat from Massachusetts. She is in for keel, fl oors, frames and planking. Two sail boats will be receiving electric


motors this winter one will be in a Herreshoff 12½. A Rozinante will also be repowered with a 14 hp Beta diesel engine. In the back of the shop, is the major


project which is the rebuilding of the sardine carrier WILLIAM UNDERWOOD, which has been underway for several years. Pres- ently they are working on the interior, cabin and machinery and system hookups. She is not expected to be launched until 2019. Off site, they have a storage shed with


more than 50 boats in it, which also has three heated bays. Over the winter they have been moving storage boats around getting them ready for the upcoming season.


Stockton Springs Marine in Stockton Springs has had a busy fall and winter. Presently in the shop is a Northern Bay


36 lobster boat which they built a winter back for along with a new engine box. They also did some cosmetic work as this boat is approaching 25 years old. She will be back in the water this spring. In another bay they have a sailboat and


they are sanding her topsides and getting ready to paint her with Alexseal. They have also had numerous small


jobs over the last six months, which has kept them busy. Already they have booked two boats to be painted next year. A majority of the time taken this fall


and winter was getting the shop and storage buildings completed and organized.


Eric Dow, Boatbuilder in Brooklin is


doing a major restoration on a Stevens 34 this winter. They have stripped out her inte- rior, replaced her keel, fl oors and frames, and have now started to plank the bottom. They have also added a bow thruster. Next they will be doing stringers, spline the topsides and then fair. Once this is complete they will begin working on her interior. They hope to have her in the water next year. In the other side of the shop, they are


rebuilding a Herreshoff 12½. Last year they did the hull and this year they are doing the deck, sheer clamp and bright work.


Richard Stanley, Boatbuilder in Bass


Harbor is working on the 36 foot Bunker & Ellis MOUSE at Newman Marine in Southwest Harbor. Over the years, Richard has done frames and transom frames. This year he has done deck frames, engine beds, put down the plywood platform, and built the mahogany cabin sides. Now they are building a fi berglass top for the shelter which is built out of Cusaboard. The engine is in, which is a 440 hp Yanmar diesel. Richard was expected to be done with this project the middle of February. Back at his shop in Bass Harbor, he is


fi nishing up the 19 foot sailboat he began several years ago with an apprentice. She is currentl y being off ered for sale.
