The only business in Worcestershire to boast this type of Retinal Imaging Machine, the team at Dominic Tunnell are excited by how it can benefit not just the clients eye health, but also their overall health and wellbeing.

Optomap ultrawide-field shows more than 82% of the retina. Traditional methods reveal 10-45% at one time.

The pioneering optomap machine was invented by Douglas Anderson who’s 5 year old son went blind because a detached retina was detected too late, something he was determined shouldn’t happen to any other family. His optomap machine has transformed the way opticians can view and record the health of the retina with a wide angle lens that enables a panoramic view and image of over 80% of the retina compared to just 10-15% at any one time using traditional methods. The eyes are the window to the general health of a person as the retina is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases such as; stroke, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes can also be seen in the retina before a patient shows signs of symptoms. Early detection of such illnesses is essential in terms of treatment and preventing loss of life.

Dominic Tunnell explains; “Numerous studies have highlighted the power of the optomap as a diagnostic tool, we’re not just excited by what it offers in terms of eyecare, but also the overall wellbeing of our clients.”
