IIMS issues a hard hitting press release to the

yachting and boating press In a bid to remind the yachting and boating public of the value of a marine surveyor and that they are professionals in every sense of the word, IIMS has prepared and issued a one thousand word press release recently, which has been circulated to the top 40 consumer boating and yachting magazines around the world for publication.

The press release entitled “What’s a yacht and small craft marine surveyor worth?” is simply to inform the public of the value and importance of a surveyor as well as giving some tips and advice on what to look for when choosing one. It highlights the fact that a marine surveyor is no different to professionals in other walks of life, such as accountants or solicitors and that people should be prepared to be charged accordingly for the surveyor’s skills, expertise and time.

Tari van der Merve the first female surveyor to qualify through the

new Professional Qualification It is pleasing to report that Tari van der Merve (pictured) has become the first female marine surveyors (and one of the first) to qualify for the IIMS Diploma in Commercial Ship Marine Surveying through the new IIMS Professional Qualifications, which were introduced two years ago.

Commenting on her achievement, Tari said, “I’m still working with my father at his company (Walvis Bay Diving). This course has helped me to understand a lot more about the industry in general and also some very specific areas. The knowledge gained has increased business opportunities for us as well. We are looking forward to taking on new challenges. As a Diving Supervisor, the knowledge I have gained helps a lot when we are on a job. The clients and IACS surveyors are always impressed and happy to see that there are some people in the industry who understand and have knowledge”.
