If you’re looking for a specific line of furniture, one that is trendy right now is Magnolia Home, the furniture line created by celebrities Chip and Joanna Gaines, stars of the HGTV show “Fixer Upper.” DEAN CURTIS FOR LIVING WELL
a room. People are hanging baskets on the wall and tobacco baskets very hot right now. Tobacco baskets are woven baskets that were used in tobacco fields to hold the crop once it was collected. While their usefulness has dissipated, the baskets are making a resurgence as home décor. Wood and wrought-iron pieces are
all the rage as wall art. “Any wooden art work or iron and
magnolia wreaths or cotton wreaths. We sell more of that than landscape pictures,” she said. Taxidermy, real or faux accents,
are always popular in Arkansas. Peo- ple are adding them to collages, mir- rors, pictures. “Throw blankets that is also an
accent piece. You can throw it over a chair and on a cold winter night you can pull it on you. A lot of times we sell ladders we put in corners and you can throw a blanket over there and
hang pictures or wreaths from them,” Laureen suggested.
ROOMS If you’re considering a new bed-
room set, oak is out. Cherry is in. Distressed wood and ash colored are popular. Wallpaper is old fashioned, while
paint is in. For paint, gray, cream and tan are trendy right now. If you want to modernize your
room, get rid of the blinds and add curtains. “Curtains are back,” she said.
“Those are a good go to because it adds depth to the room and can add pattern. It creates a nice effect. A lot of curtains are neutral, tans, creams and grays.” Another way to modernize is to add
a rug to the room which is chic right now. If the room has a neutral color
base, a rug is a great way to add a pop of color. When it comes to centerpieces,
greenery, hydrangeas and succulents are popular. You don’t see a lot of fussy flower arrangement any more. The beauty is in the simplicity. A lot of arrangements are showcased on tiers so they stand out on the table and an odd number of arrangements on the table is popular — like three or five. Tablecloths have been replaced by
table runners. The eclectic principle has been
carried over into the dining room. You don’t need a fancy set, you can mix and match the chairs. The styles these days are fun and
people can modernize their home on a variety of budgets, said Laureen. “We can help. We have it all, dining rooms, beds, bedroom sets,” she said.
