Planishing blocks are a thick metal slab made from the highest quality hardened steel to planish or ‘hammer’ on metals such as gold, silver, copper, brass, platinum, palladium,  has been cut with shears and/or put through a rolling mill. These processes, particularly the latter, can often make the surface uneven.
