Gardens in Norfolk, Va. has been awarded accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, the highest national recognition achievable by an American museum. Te award is the culmination of a four year process to earn accreditation by the museum’s staff and board of trustees.


“Tis is an historic moment for


the Hermitage, eighty years since its public opening in 1937. We could not be more pleased that the museum is being recognized for upholding the standards of our nation’s top arts institutions and for the opportunities that come along with this award” said Executive Director Jen Duncan.

Accreditation recognizes high


standards in individual museums and ensures that museums continue to uphold their public trust respon- sibilities. Developed and sustained by museum professionals for over 40 years, the museum accreditation program is the field’s primary vehicle for quality assurance, self-regulation and public accountability. Alliance accreditation signifies excellence and credibility to the entire museum community, to governments and outside agencies and to the museum-going public.
