Creative People Won’t Survive the Future Without Doing These 3 Things
The writing is on the wall. Contractors, apprenticeships, freelance workers?—?going up. Dedicated, hardworking, head-nodders?—?going down.
What does that mean:
This means creativity and will are going to be valued more than effort or time. Your ideas, your thoughts, your dreams, and your goals will be your currency. So if there’s no hope of a steady job, what will we do in the future?
It’s a great question, one which I think boils down to three principles, with none of them involving a nice resume or the ability to wow a stranger in a job...
1) Build your ideal environment to create... 2) Find and solve problems... 3) Sell your art...
RSK: Take heed CRE people creativity may be the key to our survival down the new road. As the old saying goes "If you see a fork in the road...take it"!!
Building the Office of the Future
We’ve all heard rumors about Google’s office – scooters, legos, copious amounts of free food. Facebook embraces its startup culture with an in- ternal bike shop. Twitter offers free laundry services. Thrillist offers paid time off on your birthday every year. An evolving workforce has set off a wave of new office habits, needs, and wants.
By 2020, millennials will make up 40-50% of the working population. Intuit predicts that by 2020, 40% of the U.S. workforce will be freelancers. While not every millennial wants to work at a startup, and not every freelancer wants to work from home, their demands are transforming the future of the commercial real estate industry...
RSK: This is all so very nice but for me I would like to separate work and play a bit more that way I would appreciate them both a bit more.

Developer pulling out of plan for Downtown Madi- son Area Technical College site
A developer that planned to build a 10-story office building on Madison Area Technical College’s Downtown property and pay MATC as much as several mil- lion dollars per year to lease the site is backing out of its part of a larger $131 million project.
The decision by Hovde Properties of Madison to drop its $80 million office building raises new questions about what development will fill part of the block-sized parcel just off the Capitol Square instead, and whether the college will take in less revenue from the lease than officials had hoped.
“There were just a number of issues with the underlying land lease,” Hovde president Michael Slavish said. “We just didn’t have a confidence level moving forward.”...
Ken Notes: This is too bad but land leases are tough. If there is a chance to revisit a Transit Center at the site it would be a great option for the city. And now with BRT options it is a natural fit....
Cap Times Talk: How can Madison build more great neighborhoods?
Madison is one of the most rapidly growing cities in Wisconsin, which puts pressure on city government, neighborhoods and developers to channel that growth to places not only with essential city services but also with crucial amenities like grocery stores. So, what’s the best way for Madison to build great neighborhoods?
The Cap Times has assembled an outstanding panel to discuss that question at the High Noon Saloon on Tuesday, Nov. 7. City government reporter Abigail Becker will moderate the panel, whose members are:...
... the Imagine Madison project...
Ken Notes: My 2 cents, economic diversity - from micro homes and af- fordable housing to new millennial offerings with traditional homes and of- ferings for the retiring boomers. As long as we are economically segregated will see problems develop...
