. . .we look at one of the endearing symbols of the Christmas season, the crib or nativity scene, and hear the story behind the St Nicolas’ crib in the south porch. Silvia Joinson suggests a place of respite from Christmas shopping or the New Year sales, and Philip and Edmund let us know what Junior Church and Quest get up to when they briefly leave the St Helen’s Eucharist on a Sunday morning.

Book Launch

A good crowd gathered in the south aisle at St Helen’s after Choral Even- song on November 17 to celebrate the official launch of The Magnitude of Meekness, twelve reflections for Christmastide by the rector, Charles Miller. Charles explained the background and inspiration to the book and signed copies. Sales were brisk, but there are still copies available – drop into the parish office, email window@sthelens-abingdon.org.uk or follow the link on the Publications tab of the St Helen’s website.

Vox Coelestis

rial group. The group thanks Andrew for his many contributions in commissioning, writing and editing articles for The Window and his keen eye for typo- graphical errors.

The Window takes a break in January and returns in February, with an insight into some of the ways in which each of the churches in the parish offers hospi- tality, and a preview of Lent activities.

The Rector signing books Concert for The Abingdon Bridge

St Helen’s was pleased to welcome Vox Coelestis who gave a concert entitled ‘From Shadow, Light’ on November 16. The choir, of choral scholars, lay clerks and professional singers, performs all over the country in aid of charity. The programme for the well-attended concert focused on composers who had suffered or been inspired by mental illness, and included pieces by a varied selection of composers, including Tchaikovsky, Poulenc and Bruckner. The charity chosen by the choir was the Abingdon Bridge project, and it was good to hear about the work of the project after the interval.

New Chorister

St Helen’s was pleased to admit Lucy as a full chorister on November 18. St Helen’s is always glad to welcome new children to the choir – the choristers enjoy a full musical training following the Royal School of Church Music ‘Voice for Life’ programme and enjoy social activities outside choir. If your son or daughter might be interested Dr Peter Foster, the St Helen’s Director of Music, would be delighted to hear from you.
