Hampton University gets accolades in Wall Street Journal ranking


NORFOLK - Scholarship Sharing is hosting a fourth annual Scholarship & College Fair at Norfolk State University Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall at 700 Park Ave, Norfolk, VA on October 21 and 22 from 12-5 pm on each day. This event will help students learn about ways to fund a higher education through scholarships, financial aid, and grants.


During the Scholarship & College Fair students and their

will network to learn about college funding options such as scholarships, fellowships, and grant programs from local and national nonprofit foundation representatives.


In-state and out of state colleges will also be waiving admissions fees and providing on-site applications for enrollment.


Presentations on how to win scholarships and apply for federal aid will be conducted from guest speakers.

HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University is the top Hampton Roads college or university in the 2017 Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education Ranking of U.S. Colleges released this week.


The Wall Street Journal ranked 1,061 institutions in six areas that includes salaries of graduates and value for money spent. Hampton University ranked ahead of every Hampton Roads college or university as well as 191st nationally.

Harvey. “The Wall Street Journal’s methodology is solid, and it’s exciting they find that we are among the best in Virginia and in the country.”

WHO CAN ENTER


The Voice of Democracy Program is open to students in grades 9-12 (on the Nov. 1 deadline), who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States and its territories.


HOW TO ENTER


Download the Voice of Democracy entry form and brochure to submit your essay to your local VFW Post.


Students should record their reading of the draft to an audio CD or flash drive.


The recording can be no shorter than three minutes and no longer than five minutes (plus or minus five seconds).


Entries begin at the Post level. Once the student creates their


essay and completes burning the audio version to an audio CD/flash drive, they can submit their typed version, CD/flash drive and the Voice of Democracy entry form to their local participating VFW Post by the November 1 deadline.


JUDGING CRITERIA


Originality is worth 30 points: Treatment of the theme should show imagination and human interest.


Content is worth 35 points:


Clearly express your ideas in an organized manner.


Fully develop your theme and use transitions to move smoothly from one idea to the other.


Delivery is worth 35 points: Speak in a clear and credible manner.
