TEACHING EXPERIENCE I love teaching. I’ve taught in primary, secondary and further education over 35 years. For the last 28 years, I’ve also helped children who want to go to grammar school. The catch is, they need to pass the 11+ exam to get there. That’s where my 28 years experience is very useful. Because I have been round the 11+ exam block 28 times, I know what we need to
achieve through the year, in order to finish in summer with a good chance of success. The aim must always be to help children achieve their academic potential. As well as knowledge and understanding children need study skills, concentration, focus and confidence. C

Lessons begin in Year 4: In Year 4 I begin with classic literacy: story writing, reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary
enrichment and of course, primary maths topics. I aim to help children develop important study skills: concentration, confidence and focus. All of the work I do with the children in Year 4, will also feed into their progress at their current school. At the end of Year 4 parents and I have an important discussion: Is the 11+ exam and grammar school the best route forward for their child? The foundation studies completed mean each child is ready to do their best in Year 5, whatever the final choice. They will be ready to move on to my very special Year 5 11+ programme, 28 years in the making.
