We can all remember going into the local corner shop or newsagents and buying a bag full of your favourite sweets when you were on your way home from school or as a week- end treat on a day out with your parents. Places that sell loose sweets


by weight are less common place these days but there is a shop in the centre of Bungay that keeps this tradition alive. The name is a bit of a giveaway, The Chocolate Box, and you will find this Aladdin’s cave at 6 Market Place, right at the heart of this lovely old market town. Angela and Andrew Leggett


have been running The Choco- late Box since 2008 and the hus- band and wife team have always had a strong focus on this tradi- tional sweet shop approach. From penny sweets to luxury handmade chocolate, you will be hard pressed to find a more extensive selection of sweet


treats. One of the stand-out fea- tures that shoppers can’t help but notice are the jars of penny sweets on the shelves behind the counter. There are now over 100 varieties so no matter what you are looking for – be it an old favourite from yesteryear or the latest trendy sour sweet, you can buy as much or as little as you like! Of course, as the business of


confectionery changes and evolves new products are being launched to reflect changing trends and tastes. Angela and Andrew are always adding new lines of stock to their shelves to offer their customers the best choice. For example, there is a range of chocolates that are handmade in england offering lots of interesting and exotic fla- vours such as mandarin & gin- ger, chilli & lime, and Cornish sea salt amongst others. There are also now many ‘free from’ products to cater for those with

There is a large selection of sta- tionery, greetings cards, cake boards and boxes, party acces- sories such as banners and badg- es, helium balloons for all occa- sions including jumbo numbers and characters, as well as lots of fun novelty gift ideas and chil- dren’s toys starting from just 40p! What you may not know is


that this is the place to come for Bungay specific gifts and prod-


ucts. Amongst the sweets and goodies you will find fridge magnets, pens, rulers, pencils, mugs, bookmarks and boxed fudge and shortbread, all with a Bungay theme. There are also many books that have been writ- ten about the area by local people. Angela and Andrew offer cus-


tomers other practical services such as laminating and colour photocopying and can now do up to A3 is size. Around six years ago the cou-


ple decided to make use of the spare room at the rear of the shop and opened The Cigar Box. Andrew and Angela sell a good range of pipes as well as pipe tobacco and cigars alongside a selection of gift lighters. The superb range and quality


of produce is clearly the reason The Chocolate Box and The Cigar Box have been so popular over the last few years. Howev- er, there is a personal, almost old-fashioned, approach to cus- tomer service here. Nothing is
