Feature Don’s Digressions

Something! Weekend. You can visit the www.plantsomethingmaine.org website for ideas of events you can run and materials you can use.

MELNA Executive Director Don Sproul

*** Let’s all give a great big “THANK YOU!!” to Tom Estabrook. Tom has recently stepped off the MELNA Executive Committee having completed 2 terms (6 years), the last 2 years as President. Tom’s unselfish sharing of time, his energy, and his ability to see projects through to fruition all helped move MELNA forward. Please convey your thanks to Tom when you next see him……and thanks to Estabrook Farm and Greenhouses for allowing Tom the time to serve MELNA!

*** Our Summer membership activity will have a much different look this year. Instead of the traditional Twilight Meeting with a tour of a MELNA-member facility, we are going to have a MELNA Summer Family Field Day on July 15. Tis will be an event on a Friday afternoon that will be more social, less business. But the networking will certainly remain a huge component. We are in the process of securing a venue that will have such things as horseshoes, volleyball, swimming, barbecue facilities, etc. We are urging all MELNA members to extend this invitation to all their employees and their families --- significant others, children, grandchildren, etc. We will have to take a few moments to have a Membership Meeting to enact the 2016-2017 MELNA Budget. But the emphasis will be on having fun and making new contacts within our industry!

*** Plant Something! Weekend will be May 13-15. MELNA will work on creating some publicity around this event. To maximize benefits for your company, please try to hold some interesting and informative events at your place of business and market these events as part of your participation in Plant

*** On a personal note, I want to express my sincere gratitude to members of the Maine Flower Show Committee for recommending me to serve as the Producer of MELNA’s Inaugural Maine Flower Show. It is both humbling and rewarding to know I have your support.

*** In the same manner, thank you to MELNA’s Executive Committee for awarding me the one-year contract to produce the Maine Flower Show; and also for extending my contract to serve as MELNA Executive Director for another 4 years, through June 30, 2020. It is a pleasure working with the Executive Committee --- and all MELNA members!
