Taoist Tai Chi Society Announces New Classes


Improve your health and energy with Taoist Tai Chi. Reduce stress and become more relaxed. New classes start in September at locations throughout the Triangle. The Society offers a four-month beginner package for new students. No special clothing, equipment, or aptitude is needed to learn. The practice of Taoist Tai Chi


promotes health and wellbeing for people of all ages and health con- ditions. Students consistently report relief from pain, better flexibility and balance, and reduced stress New classes begin in Raleigh at


the Blue Lotus, 401 N West Street, Suite105 Wednesday, September 6 at 1:30pm and in Durham at Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4907 Garrett Triangle Road at 11am.


On Thursday, September 7 new classes begin in Durham at the Epis- copal Center at Duke at 6pm. New classes begin at the Unity Church of Raleigh, 5214 Departure Drive, on Monday, September 11 at 6:30 pm, and on Monday, September 25 at the Southern Star Ballroom in the Falls Village Shopping Center, 6625-015 Falls of the Neuse Road in Raleigh at 10 am. She particularly enjoys collaborating with clients to create realistic portraits of children and adults, as well as homes, gardens, boats, buildings and even bridal bouquets. “I’m in love with color and light


and try to capture both elements in my paintings,” says Marlette. “I’m drawn to vivid subjects like fruits, vegetables and flowers, and the way the light changes their colors, shapes and forms.” Nantucket Vegetables was inspired


by a hand-woven basket her mother made. “I appreciate the artistry of domestic objects, from a beautiful china pattern to a dish towel.” A lifelong painter, Marlette received


formal training at the Art Students League, Skidmore College and the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, all in New York. Marlette paints in a shared studio space in Buffalo, New York, and also enjoys painting in her backyard’s natural light.
