WAY back in my youth it was fairly common that children had an hobby collecting stamps, coins or cards. Collecting can become more of an expensive hobby especially in this instance where coins from many common- wealth countries have been collected over a long period celebrating such as First Concord Flight 1976. Most of these boxed sets are silver and therefore overall value in excess of £2000 is expected. The original 4 Action Men with clothing and accessories are now more scarce and col- lectors will be out in force to secure this Lot.

From 2 separate es- tates old Firemen’s helmets have arrived particularly one be-

longing to the French Fire Service.

Several Lots of silver are included in the auction. From one property various pairs of Victorian and Geor- gian serving spoons were found as well as boxed condiment set, coffee spoons, tea- spoons and baby push and shove cutlery set. The quality and crafts- manship seen in Victo- rian mahogany furni- ture leads me to believe that the dip in recent sales will slowly return. A mahogany kneehole desk with nests of drawers either wide would adapt to make an ideal com- puter table in the mod- ern world with drawers still sliding as if made yesterday. A very early coffer has been sent for sale and if weight

A day of watches, clocks and jewellery

was a sign of quality this would be up there. The carving depicts various peasants out- side the ramparts of the castle, Elizabethan style.

Antique Auction Wednesday, 19th July 2017 at 1.30pm

HOROLOGIST enthusiasts will have a treat in store at an auc- tion in Plymouth this month. The sale of a Devon collection of fine clocks and timepieces has been enhanced by the in- clusion of the entire workshop of Totnes clockmaker and watch repairer Mr Geoffrey Riggs.

Long retired Mr Riggs has worked on watches since the 1940s and built a reputation as a fine watch repairer, in fact he worked for Rolex in London in the 1960’s. The collection in- cludes vintage lathes and tools and many watch parts, dials, movements, pocket watches; alongside cabinets of acces- sories and parts.

For those with an interest in the finer models then there are some great collectors watches on offer, the headline piece is a

valuable Rolex Daytona in stainless steel, complete with its original box it is expected to sell for over £6,000, several Rolex GMT Master II watches have been sold by Paul Keen re- cently and the one on offer should sell for over £3,000, there are many other watches for sale to suit all budgets and tastes.

On the same day a brace of jewellery and silver will be sold with the star lot expected to be a beautiful four carat dia- mond solitaire ring. If you see the ring y8ou will understand why it is estimated at £15,000.

The sale takes place through- out the day on 19th July with the fine clocks and watchmak- ers workshop sale starting off at 11am and the watch auction at 7pm.
