We have a wide variety of reports and reflections from many different aspects of the church’s work both home and abroad. The Window team take a well-deserved break over the summer, so the next edition will be for September. If you are on holi- day, don’t forget to look out for other parishes’ magazines, and bring a sample home.
July/August 2017 This month in The Window...
As an added incentive for the summer, there will be a prize for the quiz on p. 11 of this month’s edition. Simply submit your answers to the parish office or by using the email address on p.1, and the entry with the highest correct score first out of the hat on 15 August will be the worthy recipient of a book token.
News from the Parish Christian Aid
THANK YOU to everyone who contributed and collected during Christian Aid Week in May. The total collected in the parish was £1358.75.
The Revd Stuart Richards Fr Stuart, who has been padre at Dalton Barracks and a regular officiant and worshipper in the parish, is moving to a new army placement in Wiltshire over the summer. We wish Fr Stuart ‘God speed’ and all the men and women in his care our prayers as they go about their vital work in protecting us and maintaining peace at home and abroad.
A prayer for the Armed Forces:
O God our Father, we pray for all who serve our country as sailors, soldiers, and airmen. Grant that meeting danger with courage, and all occasions with discipline and loyalty, they may truly serve the cause of justice and peace, for the honour of your name. (New Every Morning)
Ride and Stride
The annual Ride and Stride in aid of the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust takes place on Saturday 9 September, so there is time for all those thinking about beating the record of churches visited to get in shape. If you don’t want to cycle or walk then there is the less strenuous option of sitting in church to welcome visitors. Please volunteer! Sponsors are needed too for those participating. For further details please see Jeannette Thomas or go to
www.ohct.org.uk/ride-stride.
Heritage Weekend
Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September is also the annual Heritage Weekend, when many buildings of historic interest not usually open to the public can be visited. It would be good if the churches could be open all day on both of those days to welcome visitors from the town and further afield. If you can help, even for an hour, please contact Elizabeth Simpson tel 524970 (for St Helen’s) or the Parish Office.
On the Sunday, at St Helen’s, we will welcome the Mayor and Town Council, and a delegation from the borough of Kensington and Chelsea, for the Mayoral Service. Please come to show your support for our elected representatives in the town and county.
