Applying for Planning Permission

You need to apply to the relevant local planning authority for planning permission. All planning applications are required to be submitted on a standard form and can be submitted either online or by post. Applying Online:

Applicants are encouraged to apply online via the Planning Portal. Completing a form online ensures you are prompted to answer only questions relevant for your application. The completed form is sent online via the Planning Portal directly to the local planning authority for processing. Every local authority in England and Wales accepts online planning applications from the Planning Portal. Who can apply

If you wish, you can appoint an agent to apply for planning permission on your behalf. For example, you may prefer your architect, solicitor or builder to take care of it. What it costs

In most cases there will be a fee. However, for some consents, e.g. listed building and planning permission for relevant demolition in a conservation area, no fee is required. The revenue from fees contributes towards the cost to the local authority of handling applications and the fee is not refundable unless the application is invalid. What next?

Once the authority has received your application it will validate it within its normal workflow processes and time scales. For more detailed help and advice on applying for Planning Permission, go to: westdevon.gov.uk
