moving everything from satellites and launch vehicles to engines and helicopters.” Volga-Dnepr has also
seen continued demand for maintaining existing infrastructure projects and for fast-response deliveries to replace equipment. The long- term opportunities in the oil and gas market also appear to be heading towards a more positive outlook. “A few projects have passed final investment decision status for which we have already started communicating with the main parties and project forwarders,” said Kraynov. Unique Requirements
Project cargoes are interesting and challenging because of their unique requirements. Volga- Dnepr participated in a liquefied natural gas project in Papua, New Guinea, which took five years of planning. “Part of this was acting as consultants for a new airport that had to be built,” said Kraynov. “For this project, we then completed an intensive flying program of 88 flights in
the units,” said Andre Grikitis, Intermarine’s operating chairman. “As a result this job required loading and lashing plans and CAD designs.” The coke drums were discharged to barges in New Orleans, with Intermarine responsible for arranging the barge location and placing the units in the perfect position onboard. Hawaii’s growing population
has spawned a variety of projects. “New housing
developments on Oahu are creating new infrastructure projects, and old infrastructure around hotel zones are adding capacity and renewing the older facilities,” Pasha said. “A light rail system is under construction to assist in transporting folks to and from work across the island.” Starting last year the first

to Pasha’s roll trailers or MAFIs by rolling the car from the trailer via bridge rails to the rails on the MAFI trailers. They are then chained down and subsequently loaded onto Jean Anne for transit to Honolulu. Upon arrival in Honolulu the rail cars are rolled from MAFI back to specialized highway trailer for delivery to the rail station. The bridge rails were built to
be a stable platform linking the two trailers. “The height and

field in which some operators play in narrower sub- specialties. Pasha Hawaii, as its name suggests, specializes in shipments to and from the U.S. mainland and Hawaii. “There is a steady stream of infrastructure projects fueling transportation needs of heavy equipment and materials,” said Michael Pasha, director of oversize cargo at Pasha Hawaii. “The demand on our service over the last three years has seen a steady increase of about 3% year over year.” Project

limited to ocean shipping and Volga-Dnepr Airlines carries its share of projects in the skies. “Our specialists oſten produce solutions that the customer didn’t think was possible by airfreight,” said Kraynov.

breakbulk, and heavyliſt carrier, transported four coke drums on the MV Ocean Freedom from Gijon, Spain, to New Orleans last year. The cargo units measured 34.4-by-8-by-8.2 meters and weighed 333 metric tons each. The MV Ocean Freedom was selected due to the vessel’s ability to move items via single crane and/or tandem liſt. The holds of the vessel also allowed for below deck stowage, providing further protection of the cargo. “The dimensions of the cargo
