occupiers to meet, exchange ideas, and work in a buzzing and creative environment. We also have over 100 cycle spaces as well as shower and changing facilities for the ever increasing number of employees choosing to cycle, run or walk to work. The building also features superfast internet connections and has been awarded a Wired Score rating of Gold. We think Thames Tower is unlike any other workspace in Reading – it’s a game changer.
And the jewel in the crown is the rooftop lounge?
Yes, Roost is pretty special. It’s been created by Simon Green at Moho London, who did the fit-out of Bullit’s office at One Valpy, which is one of the best office fit outs I’ve ever seen – and I’ve seen a lot. It has the feel of a stylish members’ club and gives occupiers a fantastic space to meet, socialise or work away from their desks. It can double up as an events space and we have an in- house barista. It’s been designed as a winter garden and is overflowing with beautiful ferns – it’s just a stunning space. When you first see it it’s a real surprise, it’s somewhere you can go to relax and zone out – or work in a completely different environment. I’ve been spending quite a bit of time up there.
So Roost is for occupiers to use?
Yes, the space is available for occupiers in the building – this is central to our approach as a developer. We believe that businesses today expect much more from their
workspace and that providing really great amenities is hugely important to tenant satisfaction. We want people to enjoy coming into work and not watch the clock – and occupiers understand that having a great workplace is now crucial if they want to attract and retain the best talent. This is an approach we have taken on our developments elsewhere – One Queen Caroline Street in Hammersmith, which completed last year; The Charter Building in Uxbridge which we launched earlier this year; as well as, The Porter Building in Slough, which will complete later in the summer. We focus on creating buildings that have real character and that offer occupiers something special.
So what kind of occupiers are you hoping to attract to Thames Tower?
Well, we are sector agnostic, but the buildings we develop attract contemporary businesses that are looking for innovative, high specification, design- led contemporary office workspace in urban locations, close to a range of amenities and exceptional transport links. And that’s what Thames Tower provides.
Clearly you have a lot of confidence in Reading?
Absolutely, Reading is in every way except in name a fantastic city –it may be a town but it offers more than many cities. From an occupier point of view it’s a great location. It’s equidistant from London and Oxford and offers excellent access to rail and road connections. The station is right next to Thames Tower and from there you can travel into London Paddington in 24 minutes. When the Elizabeth Line opens in 2019 travel times into Bond Street in central London will be cut to just 53 minutes so the connectivity is great. Reading is definitely on the rise.
